Keeping a bikini for years seems like an impossible task. How many of you have recovered your favorite bikini from the closet and been surprised by the poor condition it was in? It has faded, the straps have stretched or even smells musty. All these symptoms are probably due to not washing and preserving them as we should and, possibly, we will have to invest in new bikinis and swimsuits.
Chlorine, sweat or sun creams are some of the factors that damage these garments that we use so much in summer, so if you want them to have a long life you must give them specific care. This will depend on the state in which you find them next summer.
At THE-ARE we have the solution to make your bikinis IMMORTAL. So put these little tricks into practice and we promise they will last the whole vida🤞🏼!
By the way, if you've fallen victim to a worn out bikini or want to add new swimwear, then check out our collection of bikinis and swimsuits🙈. Now we're really getting started!
We've all done that thing where we've come home after a day at the beach or the pool and just put the bikini on: WRONG. Before doing so, soak the swimsuit in cold water, rinse it, wring it out well and remove all the salt and chlorine because otherwise, over time, the fabric will eventually fade. Nobody wants to wear a green swimsuit because of chlorine!!!
Very hot water will damage the fabric and can even fade and stretch it. So washing it in cold water is the best way to keep the color and design intact. Also, try to use a liquid soap as powder detergent hardens the fabric. And don't forget to untie all the knots in the bikinis. It is best to wash them by hand, but if you are lazy, put them in a net bag suitable for the washing machine, never in the dryer!
What happens when you are in the sun for long hours? Well, the same thing happens with our bikinis, they end up burning. Put them to dry in a place where it does not give direct light or at least not expose it in the hottest hours, so you will avoid burning the rubber bands and the color loses intensity. Another trick is tolet them dry upside down, that is, with the lining facing outwards, so that the fabric does not deteriorate.
If you don't want your bikini to smell musty and fungus to appear, store it completely dry in an airtight bag, preferably made of fabric. Many times we usually put the bikini in a plastic bag when we finish the beach or pool session and, without going home, we change clothes to go out with friends, eat, walk and leave the bikini for hours in the bag wet. So before doing so, make sure your swimsuit is dry🥵.
At the end of the season, before storing your bikinis, wash them without fabric softener and with warm water. Let them dry well and store them in a small cloth bag, preferably individually to avoid the fabrics of some bikinis sticking to others, especially if you live in a very hot area.
👉🏼 Finally, remember that the quality of the bikini itself also influences its duration, so we always recommend investing a little more in quality bikinis and always supporting the production Made in Spain. It is worth investing in a bikini like this and if you take good care of it, it will last for years! Choose the bikini or swimsuit that you are going to use this year, whatever you choose it will last you a lifetime following these tips!
